Introducing: Sharon Atchison with Sharon Atchison Staging

How long have you been in business?

4 1/2 years

Are you solo or have a team?

One assistant

Describe any specific challenges in this picture.

What doesn’t really show in this picture is the massive ceiling height. I was very worried that the furniture selection wouldn’t be the correct scale but it all worked out just beautifully. This is one of the Parade Homes from 2016.

What got you into staging in the first place?

Since I was old enough to have my own place I have played with décor and have helped family, friends and neighbors.
I have a friend that would come to visit and every time he was at my home he would ask if this is new or that is new…I would tell him that those items were just in other rooms. I change things in my home probably more than I should. He at one point said, You should become a stager…. So I did!

What was your previous career?

Restaurant manager

What do you know now that you wished you knew on your first day of business?

For me personally….I wish I had known more about the pricing. Following general guidelines (RESA) are definitely helpful.
Let’s just say that like most other stagers…..I’ve left money on the table – hind sight.

What has been you biggest business challenge and how did you overcome it?

My first year staging I had two Parade Homes with a very limited budget. I didn’t have an assistant so I borrowed my mom and a friend. I have learned that you can’t do it all alone!

I have learned that many times things will NOT go as planned. Homes may not be ready, movers might be late, that “perfect” piece just may not work….I’ve learned to adjust with a smile

What objection have you heard from a client and how did you overcome it?

I had a lady once that didn’t tell me but told her realtor that she didn’t want to take down all of those grandbaby pictures and several religious pieces as well. The realtor told me about it as I had no idea that was an issue for her when I left her home. I went back to her home and we agreed on what would look appropriate for leaving out during the sale of the house. All but one very beautiful picture of Jesus was put away and 75% of the grandbaby photos. It all ended well. Their home sold quickly and she gave me some lovely suitcases and a rug…..bless her heart for trusting me.
